How can we extend the life of rubber tracks?

The rubber track roller is composed of a certain amount of metal and wire connections moved into the rubber belt. It is the walking part of crawler heavy machinery (such as loaders, bucket chain excavators, track roller excavators, multi-terrain loaders or compact crawler loaders). It has the characteristics of stable walking, low vibration, low noise, high traction, and no damage to the road surface. Although the abrasion on the rubber track chain of the excavator cannot be avoided when using the machine, there are some convenient tips to ensure that the life of the rubber track is as long as possible. Correct use and maintenance of rubber track is the key to prolong its service life. In this article, we provide 5 tips on how to limit the wear of rubber tracks.

1. Pay attention to the terrain

Take the road as little as possible. When transferring, more than two kilometers, it is best to use special vehicles. When transferring short distances, try to choose a flat dirt road or grass, avoiding uneven hard objects. Because the hard objects on the road will cause the pressure of the local track to increase sharply, it is easy to cause the rubber and the steel wire or steel block to peel off. The peeled rubber track is easily broken by impact.

2. Frequently check the tightness of the track

According to the requirements of the instruction manual, always check the tightness of the crawler crane, and it is not too tight but not too loose. If your rubber track is too tight, it will increase the stress on the moving landing gear components and cause increased track wear. Otherwise, a track that is too loose may cause the sprocket to miss or skip the track chain links on the track, resulting in derailment.

3. Correct driving habits

It is forbidden to turn sharply on concrete ground, gravel road ground or hard pavement, otherwise it will cause the crawler core to wear, the belt body is twisted, and the crawler cracks. When crossing the ridge, you must advance at a low speed at right angles to the ridge. The height of the ridge is more than 10 cm, and you must use pedals, otherwise the track will fall off and be damaged.

The driver should not drive at high speed while on the move, because this will increase the tension on the underframe, which will not only accelerate the wear of the rubber track, but also accelerate the wear of all underframe components.

4. Keep the rubber track undercarriage clean

Because the mud sticks to the grass and is easy to run into the crawler, the grass will wrap up the gaps in the crawler. Cause the crawler belt to expand, deform and elongate, cause slippage, and affect normal operation. The soil dries out on the moving components, which quickly corrodes the inside of the track. We recommend that you clean the excavator undercarriage parts every time you use the excavator.

5. Frequently check the condition of other spare parts for machine

If other construction machinery parts (such as rollers, track idlers and sprockets) are in poor condition, it may accelerate the wear of the track. When replacing the track, we always recommend that you replace the sprocket at least at the same time to prevent premature wear of the rubber track.
